Report for Los Angeles Colony

June 2010

The Los Angeles colony had an outstanding meeting on June 5th at Stevens Steakhouse in the city of Commerce. Members of the San Gabriel Colony, and Governor Mary Lou Petrie were in attendance. The cuisine was a house specialty combination of sirloin steak, marinated chicken breast, and scampi served with rice, vegetables, and desert. It was excellent!

Our first speaker was Holy schultzenberger of the Children of the American Revolution where she spoke about “United Through Reading which is an organization that works to maintain family unity and child-parent relationships while a parent is deployed in the United States Armed Forces." It is great to see young people showing an interest in helping others, later we presented her with a check for the CAR.

Our main speaker was Los Angeles Colony Deputy Governor Ward White who's program was titled The Faith of Our Fathers, The Pilgrim Story. Which was presented with a power point display on our big screen. Wards genealogy is pretty amazing, and even includes Thomas Blossom who was on the Speedwell when it developed a leek and had to turn back. President Obama is also descended from Thomas Blossom. Ward’s presentation was well received and  later he was presented with a certificate of appreciation.

Our next meeting will be at the Tam O'Shanter November 6th where we will be hosting the San Gabriel Colony. Our speaker will be General George Washington with his color guard. A slide show of the general who as portrayed by the Son's of the American Revolution member C. Roger Cooper is on our colony website.  Check for details at the Los Angeles Colony Website at www.lacolony.org and click on the tercentenary 50 cent piece to get to our calendar section.
